Hardcore and Straight Edge.

Cassidy kept talking about how awesome True Life is, so I decided to watch a few episodes the other day. I watched one episode called, "I am Addicted to Meds". It wasn't that awesome at all, it was actually kind of sad, the opposite of what I expected. The episode focused on two young adults, one in Flordia and one in California, who are addicted to pain killers. The guy in California said he didn't take pain killers to be cool or rebellious, he took them because they give him a feeling of escape from all of his problems in the real world. After he admitted the reason behind his addiction I began thinking that going to hardcore and punk rock shows is my escape from my real world problems. For the 20 minutes a band is playing it feels like all my problems and negative emotions go away and all I focus on is having fun. Going to a show and singing along and dancing definitely gives me an adrenaline rush nothing else can, like this guy and his pain killers.
I felt bad for him because he is addicted to pain killers when all he wants is just to have something he can turn to relieve him of his problems for a while. I'm really glad that hardcore, punk rock, and straight edge has had a positive influence on my life.
